MATT MADDEN’S FIVE OBSTRUCTIONS TO ME

Posted by hutchowen on June 8, 2007

I was inspired recently by seeing Lars Von Trier’s THE FIVE OBSTRUCTIONS, in which he challenges his mentor, Jorgen Leth to remake his own film five unique ways. Von Trier challenges him with a different set of constraints or “obstructions” and Leth (often unhappily) trots off to go make the film with the new set of rules.

So I have asked my good friend and inspiration Matt Madden to offer me something similar: 5 sets of constraints for a week’s worth of original comics.

MY only constraint was that I have a consistent size and shape to work with, and the newspaper has to print it. From there, I’ll let Matt take over.

I just put a library hold on the movie. Thanks for reminding me about that. I look forward to seeing what you two come up with!
